Joe S. Hopper: Former Commissioner of
the Alabama Dept. of Corrections...
and his Compassionate Offer to Patrick Swiney

In 1996, Patrick, after a letter to a State Senator protesting treatment at Holman Prison, received a most unique offer. The State of Alabama will consider allowing him to go free if he can find a foreign country willing to grant him asylum.
Please click on the thumbnail below to read the details of the offer from Joe Hopper, commissioner of the Dept. of Corrections.
Persons having access to government officials of any country willing to grant asylum to a good cop framed for murder in the very corrupt State of Alabama should ask them to forward their offer directly to Patrick, with a copy to the Alabama Dept. of Corrections at the address given in the letter.
If you can spare the time, please write to Commissioner Joe S. Hopper and thank him for his gesture of compassion toward Patrick Such magnanimity is rare coming from jaded prison officials. Be sure to let him know where you saw his letter.
All offers from any country will be considered, although naturally a European Country would be preferred. But, as a wise man once said, ''tis better to be free in the most impoverished country on earth than to be a prisoner in the richest.
Patrick is of Irish descent, and would dearly love to settle in his ancestral homeland. The Netherlands have also been a traditional sanctuary for the politically persecuted.
